Not all kiln-dried firewood is the same, so we’ll dive into what goes into ours and what sets it apart. Kindled Provisions kiln-dried firewood undergoes a controlled, 48-hour heat-treatment process in a kiln, significantly reducing its moisture content and enhancing its overall quality. The kilns we use are purpose-built for firewood. We heat the kilns to 250 degrees Fahrenheit to make the wood dry for optimal burning and eliminate any potential mold spores or pests.
Operating similarly to large convection ovens, these kilns ensure consistent and thorough drying, resulting in wood that looks fresh but is, on average, 12% dryer than most other firewood products. Our kiln-dried hardwood firewood is dried to between 5-8% moisture percentage. In comparison, easoned firewood is around 20% moisture content, while green hardwood is around 60% moisture content.
